"Umaru and Summer Vacation" (うまると夏休み Umaru to Natsuyasumi?) is the fifth episode of the Himouto! Umaru-chan Himouto! Umaru-chan (Himouto! Umaru-chan (Anime)).


The episode depicts how Umaru spends her summer, showing her competing with Tachibana Sylphynford (as UMR) at various games in the local arcade, hanging out (as Komaru) with Kirie, as well as bathing and going shopping with her friends to buy new clothes. The last segment of the episode depicts Taihei's typical day at work.

  • Ebina cries over failing the latest test at school.
  • When Kirie sees "Komaru" sleeping, Kirie utters the popular phrase, "What is this adorable creature?!"
  • When Kirie goes to take a picture of "Komaru", the sleeping Umaru/Komaru grabs Kirie, starts climbing her, and starts sucking/sleeping on her stomach, throwing Kirie into a state of total happiness. It is unknown what Umaru is dreaming about.
  • When Umaru goes shopping, and stops to look at Monster Fantasy 5, the aforementioned game and the name of its publisher, Gapcom are references to Monster Hunter and its owner Capcom.
  • When Umaru is warned by her brother not to buy anything other than clothes, an unknown man appears at the bottom left of the screen warning her "DON'T BUY IT!"
  • On the first day back to school, when Umaru is woken up by her brother, Umaru mutters, "I've lost the most irreplaceable things in life, like summer vacation... and my brother..."
  • In the preview for the next episode, Umaru suggests that they use the director or series creator Sankaku Head to narrate, due to a shortage of narrators.
  • When Taihei's coworkers ask him if Umaru is cute, he thinks about Umaru's outside mode and her saying "Umaruun", then reverting to her true chibi form, pouting and yelling "ONII-CHAN, BUY IT!!!!!!!!!" and he responds by saying she's normal.
